Like solid spawn, liquid spawn for edible mushrooms is also classified into three levels:

  • Master Spawn (First-Level Spawn): Cultured in test tubes or petri dishes.
  • Intermediate Spawn (Second-Level Spawn): Grown in Erlenmeyer flasks or filter flasks.
  • Production Spawn (Third-Level Spawn): Produced using fermenters, which follow either a mobile tank or fixed tank technology route.
